A bit of history
CER's experience dates back nearly a century.
In 1903, Mr. Leon COTTET-EMMARD opened a machine shop in Oyonnax, specialised in the manufacture of small tools for local companies. That is, the production of items in celluloid, such as combs and hair care items.
The activities extended over time to the construction of small machines which presaged the automated equipment.
In 1925, the first hot presses appeared, designed to decorate hair care items with gold.
In 1931, Mr. Maurice COTTET-EMMARD, son of the founder, and Mr. Raymond ROULLEAU, a young arts and crafts engineer, settled into a small factory and started to explore new manufacturing areas.
In 1933 they created the first machine which could "print on any object".
This generated a great deal of activity. In 1935, they were forced to leave their old workshop and construct a larger factory.
This expansion was slowed down by the war, and didn't restart until 1945.
The CER Sarl company (COTTET-EMARD ROULLEAU) was formed in 1947.
It focused increasingly on the construction of machines for printing objects using an offset process, without abandoning the hot stamping presses, which was very widespread at the time. Since then, it has grown considerably.
Then the advent of the silk screen printing process opened new opportunities.
CER developed a range of screen printing machines, and occupies a prominent place in the industry for printing on objects in three process areas: offset, hot stamping and screen printing.
In 1993, CER integrated the groupe Dubuit.
With its success, and in order to meet growing demand, CER created CERFOILS in January 2002 to develop and commercialise supplies and consumables for hot stamping.
In 2007, CER and CERFOILS have been acquired by the American group ITW.
Leadership is not imposed, it is gained.
